We can sell your car for you, getting you a fair price and saving you a lot of hassle

Selling a car can be tough. It seems that no one is prepared to give you a fair price and sellers very rarely get anywhere near what their car is truly worth. No matter how you decide to you sell your car, the process is generally a lot of hassle and can often be a little intimidating. At Fair Price Car Seller we endeavour to both get you a good price for your car and to make the whole process painless.  You just drop your car with us (or we can collect) and let us take care of everything for you. If need be we can prepare the car for sale for you in order to get you the best possible price for it, using our trade rates to get you the best deals.  Your car doesn't need to valid MOT for us to prepare and sell it for you.  In certain circumstances we can even have non-runners collected by flatbed.

As a car broker, we want to ensure that both you the seller and the buyer of your car get a fair deal - and we think that is perfectly possible.  Our fees are completely transparent and are on a sliding scale, dependent on how much you'd like us to do on your behalf, but we'll always do all we can to get the best deal for you.  To get a likely sale price for your car please complete our data collection form, or call 01252 214049 now for more information.

Option A - Sale only
£299 + costs
You provide the car serviced and MOT’d (see our requirements below) and we do the rest.
Option B - Sale and preparation
£399 + costs
We get the car serviced, MOT’d and or any necessary mechanical work completed for you at trade rates.  You pay for the work as it is completed.
Option C - Sale and preparation with payment on sale
£499 + costs
As per option B, but we pay for the work and deduct those costs from the sale price of your car.
Additional expenses/costs to be deducted from the sale price:
  • An independent PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) and mechanical report (£50+VAT)
  • Advertising costs (just £16.50+VAT per month or part month for cars under £2,500, £3+VAT per day for other cars)
  • Card payment costs if that is how the customer chooses to pay (0.4% debit card, 0.9% credit card)
  • Valet and detailing (£30 average, depending on need, but no cost if clean enough to sell)
  • A six month warranty (approximately £80) for cars under 12 years of age
  • Additional fuel as required
The good news is that each of these factors should increase the value of your car to potential buyers (so they more than pay for themselves) and improve your chances of a quick sale.  Please note that if your car has a retail value of less than £1,000 we have alternative packages with reduced costs (see 'budget cars' for more details).

We do our very best to take all of the worry out of selling your car and to prepare it to the highest (economical) standards to get you a really good deal.  Please click here to have a look at our reviews on Trustpilot to see for  yourselves what our customers have said about the service that we offer.

How we can help you to sell your car

Offering a convenient service that you can trust

We can sell your car for you from just £299 plus expenses, which we deduct from the sale price.

When selling your car, you traditionally have three options:
  1. Do it yourself - which isn’t for everyone and can be quite a bit of hassle.
  2. Part exchange - probably not getting a lot for it and limiting the places you can buy your next car
  3. Selling it to a national car buyer who absolutely will not honour the already rather low price that they ‘guaranteed’ online, so you definitely definitely won’t get a lot for it!
At Fair Price Car Seller we offer a fourth option: we get you a fair price for your car, selling it on your behalf and taking care of all the hassles involved. We offer a bespoke package, allowing you to take charge of as much of the process as you wish, enabling you to keep more of your money if you want to.

You can prepare the car for sale yourself or we can do so for you, then you just leave the car with us, cancel your insurance and we deal with everything for you. It’s still your car, and remains so until the day it is sold.

Assessing whether our service is right for you

We think we offer an excellent service which is suitable for a lot of people, but we’re completely transparent and always try to find the best solution for you; we fully accept that may not be us. Before asking us to sell your car, it is wise to consider what is most important to you:
Maximum Profit
If you want to get maximum return, we recommend you prepare and sell the car yourself. In our experience AutoTrader is the best platform to do so. It does cost a bit, but people buying via other platforms such as FaceBook Marketplace and Gumtree seemingly expect you to give them your car, and buyers on Ebay never seem to collect cars (or pay for them!). Dealing with everything yourself you may get a little more than you would with us by the time we’ve deducted preparation expenses. The reality is that most people end up significantly dropping their asking price to secure a sale, so depending on the value of your car there is every chance that you’ll get a similar or better price with us, but we can’t guarantee that and we won’t pretend otherwise.
Quick Payment
If you need the money in a hurry, we suggest that a national car buyer is your best option. They really don’t play fairly, but if you know that up front, will accept a low price (usually far lower than the one they promised you online) and are willing to pay an extra charge for quick payment, most will pay you on the day of your appointment. There are plenty of cars which we’ve sold the day they went on sale, and most go within a few weeks, but some can take a month or two, and occasionally more. We can only prepare and present the car - we cannot guarantee a fast sale. The reality is that some makes and models are more sought after than others.
Good money, but without the hassle
If you’re not in a mad hurry for your money, and would like to get considerably more money than using a national car buyer or part exchange but without the hassle of selling your car yourself, we can sell your car for you. We take a fixed fee for doing so and you get paid when it sells. You get a far fairer price for your car without having to sell it yourself.

How it works

A fair solution that works for everyone
Our requirements
When you entrust us with the sale of your car, we will work hard to get you a fair price for it. However, we also have a responsibility to the buyer to ensure they are getting a car in good working order - a car they can depend on and enjoy. To that end we insist that before we can sell it the car:
  • has a minimum of 10 (full) months of MOT remaining
  • has been serviced within the last 12 months or 10,000 miles
  • is within its cam belt service schedule and isn’t due for replacement for at least another 10 months/10K miles
  • has a good clutch (if it has one!)
  • is valeted
Why your car may sell faster with us than if you were to sell it privately
We like to think think that we go ‘above and beyond’ what other car dealers offer.
  • We offer 12 months of at-cost aftercare (parts and labour) on all cars sold
  • Where applicable, we provide a six month 3rd party warranty (which the buyer can upgrade to up to three years if they wish)
  • We provide free Experian HPI/category checks
  • We submit all cars to a thorough mechanical inspection
  • We give the car to a 30-minute road test (with report)
  • We can take card payments
  • Customers can check our reviews and know we’ll take care of them and won't sell cars with know faults etc.
  • We offer insured test drives
  • We can usually be more flexible regarding viewings and test drives than is possible for a private seller
  • Our advertising package and high ratings mean that our ads get priority over private ads and those of many other traders
  • We offer station pick-ups or test drives at their homes for those without transport
  • We can deliver the car
  • We offer the buyer further after-sale ‘add on’ trade-rate services like discounted parking sensors and cameras

Once we have your authority to sell your car, we get started. Our service includes:
  • Preparation of the car as required
  • A 30-minute road test with report.
  • Valeting and detailing.
  • Secure (insured) storage in our compound.
  • Photography and advertising.
  • Taking calls and arranging viewings.
  • Giving test drives under our trade insurance.
  • Arranging a third party warranty to give potential customers confidence.
  • Arranging collection of your car if required.
  • Driving the car for 10-20 miles per week to keep it in good mechanical order.
  • Keeping in weekly contact with you, informing you about levels of interest and discussing next steps (i.e. possible price changes) via call, text message or email as you prefer.
  • Taking payment by debit or credit card and offering a 'pay by link' facility.
  • Informing you immediately when your car is sold.
  • Transferring payment to your account as soon as we receive it. Bank transfers are immediate, cash can be delivered or collected, but card payments take one working day to arrive.
  • Emailing you a copy of the sale contract (so you know exactly what price was paid), detailing fees deducted (as explained above), and the date that payment was/will be made to your account.

Next steps if you’d like us to sell your car
Fill in the sale enquiry form to help us to give you a true value of your car. If using computers isn’t your thing, you can pop round to the office to do it with us or we can do it over the phone with you.  If you like the numbers, bring the car in and we’ll look it over and take it for a quick spin. We will also need:
  • The V5 (logbook)
  • Photographic identification (passport or driving license)
  • As much documentation and history as you have for the car (it increases the price we can get for it).
Note: If your ID doesn’t match the address on the V5 we’ll need you to bring a utility bill in your name at the address shown on the V5. We’ve all forgotten to keep our admin up to date at times, but we’re sure you’ll understand that we must protect our customers.

All being well, you sign a contract giving us permission to sell the car on your behalf and declaring any faults which you are aware of. You then drop the car to one of our approved local garages for preparation or we make arrangements for you to do so when you are ready. We can also arrange collection from your home if necessary.

At that point you can go home, cancel your insurance, cancel your road tax payment and SORN your car (or we can help you with this if you need us to) and put your feet up!
